So You Think You Can Dance Australia Scam

with 9 comments

On a side note, before you read:

Thanks to everyone who has made this blog so successful- I have had some great links and a lot of attention to this blog. I would just like to say that most of what is posted here was written in the 2 weeks prior to the grand finale show. I do realise now that the Grand Final was live except for the 2 group performances and of course, the packages and so forth. That does not change how I feel about the show in general, and that I think it was rigged. I believe Australia was misled, and that has nothing to do with how I feel about the dancers themselves or the results. At no stage in this blog do I mention who my favourite dancers were, and this blog has nothing to do with that. This blog was not written as a result of my dissapointment at the results, as some may think. (In fact, some of my favourites stayed in far longer than they deserved to.) It was written as a result of information that I have researched and recieved. It is my own writing, research and my own personal opinion.

So You Think You Can Dance Scam

I posted this on my forum, as I feel very strongly about the whole thing. I believe Australia has wasted millions of dollars on a rigged “reality” show. Join the discussion here. :)

Aside from hearing whispers and finding out that SYTYCD Australia Sunday shows are pre-taped on a Friday (Mondays are live), I found an interesting announcement on SYTYCD Australia’s Website, which leads me to believe the show is not only rigged, but they are taking a damn lot of voting money off Australians.

This is the announcement:

Last Chance too see Dance Australia LIVE this season
Today (Monday April 14th) at 1pm, the Dance Australia ticket box office will open.
An audience is required for Thursday April 24th for an Afternoon Pre-Record (Two group performances for the Grand Final)
Audience will be called for 1215 on the day, until approx 1515.
Standing room only.

Only those selected for tickets will receive a reply. If you have not been confirmed, via email, by Tuesday 22nd April you have not been allocated tickets and will not be required.
Head to the Dance Australia Box Office to apply.
Good Luck!

On a Grand Final note, there will be no tickets available for the general public.

Thanks to everyone who has attended a Dance Australia show this year- the audiences have been outstanding!

At least some of The Grand Final is obviously pre-taped, and no general public tickets are available to the general public.

Leads me to believe the WHOLE thing is pre-taped. What kind of “Live voting reality show” doesn’t have tickets available to the general public for its grand finale? Isn’t that slightly sus?

They have had competitions for the grand finale show, and they do state that you must be available for travel on Sunday the 27th (day of the grand final show), but the competitions have placed emphasis on after parties rather than the show itself.

In addition, not one audience member has come forward to describe what the pre-taped show is like, even though people have been asking. I am assuming that everyone has to sign some kind of release and a strict confidentiality agreement.

Also, we’ve not heard much from the booted dancers, either. They have each had one single exit interview. Here are some interesting parts I found:

Read the interviews here:

Camilla’s interview
She pretty much says here that she doesn’t like Sermsah, even though they made out like they were best friends and so proud of each other and “I love this guy” on the show. She also says she basically knew she was leaving:

You didn’t mention Sermsah…
You know what? Sermsah and I are from two very different worlds and I love him dearly for the person that he is, but we are very different.

Did you have your speech ready?
To be honest, I had an inkling that my time was fast approaching and I didn’t want to hear the news and fall to pieces on national TV.

JD’s Interview
He talks about the public not responding to Kate. Interesting this- if they aren’t responding to her, how did she get to the final 4?

Clearly, the judges love Kate, but the public doesn’t seem to be responding to her — she’s been in the bottom three quite a few times. Why do you think that is?
I don’t know. Maybe because she is a very focused and determined person, and she’ll focus on the task at hand, whereas other personalities in the group do that, but they also share of themselves and are able to really connect with the audience.

And Kassy Lee’s Interview:
This speaks for itself.

Did you have a routine prepared?
I did have it prepared, but I hadn’t rehearsed it as much as I would have liked. But I don’t honestly think that had anything to do with it. I think I was going home whether or not I did a handstand or seven flips in a row.
Why’s that?
I think they know who they want there.
Does that mean you think the judges had already made up their minds about who they were going to keep?
Yeah, exactly.

Suri’s interview

Given that you’ve never forgotten a routine, did you think you had a shot against JD?
I’m quite intuitive and I sensed something that day… Usually, I’m freaking out the whole time because the adrenaline’s pumping, but when I was standing in front of the judges, I just sensed they were going to say, “It’s time to go, Suri.”

Do you think the judges have already made up their minds about who they want in the top 10?
Oh yeah. It’s not just the judges, it’s the producers as well. They get together and have their discussions. It’s up to Australia to have so much input, but I believe the judges come to a point where, if they get the opportunity, they’ll keep the ones that they want.

Then, these are my observations from last night:

Interesting. I am watching the “live” grand final and Rhys and Jack are the top 2 dancers.

WTF is this all about:

They find out that Jack and Rhys are the top 2, they have Leona Lewis, etc perform and some other stuff in between. THEN they do the “packages” for each of the boys. THEN straight after that, the boys dance the last routine of the night.

What I want to know is did they ALL have to rehearse this last routine? Isn’t it a bit of a coincidence that the boys have this pre-rehearsed routine and are performing it live JUST AFTER they found out they were the top 2?

I very highly doubt that all of them would have had to rehearse it in combos of 2 people…

Also, as a side note, Rhys and Jack were photographed together in a professional shoot, weeks ago, and they were published in the Sunday paper. I see no photoshoots for the girls though.

These guys were hand picked to be the final 2. Australia just wasted millions of dollars.

In the end, Jack won. He was the judges fav, all along. Had public voting had a say, i belive that Rhys would have won. The whole thing is a scam. What do you think?

  1. actually, i have some points
I did notice the boys (j&r) routine and was like i wonder if they already knew, but then i watched again and noticed. THERE WAS NO PARTNER WORK AT ALL, quite possible that all 4of them learnt it!

  2. Very possible. The reason I say “I doubt it” is because of the amount of routines they had to perform and go over.

But still, the rest is very interesting don’t you think?

Anyone notice the TERRIBLE stuff ups in Anthony’s disco routine? They both half assed the whole way through- and they were two of the best dancers on the show! lol

  3. I bet if Rhys had won you would have never even written this blog. Just because your favorite didn’t win doesn’t mean the show is fixed.

  4. Funny you should say that Jazz. I didn’t mention my favourite once through this whole blog. In actual fact Jack was my favourite. lol. I have been in the process of writing this for about 2 weeks. I wish some people would actually read…

  5. For what it’s worth – the top 4 did all rehearse the final routine for each possible combination, and the only pre-recorded content was the opening and top 10 group routines…everything else was live on Sunday.

  6. Very interesting, but it makes you feel a bit duped. I’d still watch it if they told us it was pre-taped, so why the lying? Der, ratings of course.
    Very interesting analysis.

  8. I am aware of that, now. I wrote the blog 2 weeks before the finale and also on the night of the finale / day after, and was not aware that he tore a muscle until after this blog went up. :)

  9. yes!! i agreee!!

because.. if you look at demi for one.. she wasnt trying as hard in the dance routeens for the final show.. and the camera was more fixed on the 2 boys. i always thought it was rigged because i had demi as a dance teacher a few months befor the went on that show.. and she could do soooo much better then what she acctually did on that night. and you could tell that she wasnt trying as hard.
